Juliet Speisman Burgess

Juliet S. Burgess is the Founding Partner of the Burgess Law Group. For two decades, she has specialized in commercial litigation and labor and employment law representing clients, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to start-up businesses, before federal and state courts, administrative agencies, and in mediation and arbitration proceedings; successfully handling cases from inception through trial. 

She’s been named Best Lawyers in America by US News & World Reports, Outstanding Woman in Business by Phoenix Business Journal, Women Achiever of Arizona by Arizona Capitol Times, Business Angel of the Year by Arizona Business Magazine, and SuperLawyer by Southwest SuperLawyers.

Juliet is focused on understanding the unique realities of each of her clients’ businesses and she regularly collaborates with attorneys who specialize in other areas of the law to find creative solutions to client needs.  Her practice includes counseling employers of varying sizes and industries regarding employment discrimination and retaliation, wrongful termination, sexual harassment, hiring and termination procedures, the Family Medical Leave Act (“FMLA”), the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”), leaves of absence and paid time off, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, the Fair Labor Standards Act (“FLSA”), workplace safety, drug testing, technology, and violence in the workplace.

She also conducts workplace investigations, performs in-house trainings on harassment and discrimination avoidance, speaks on pertinent legal issues impacting businesses of all sizes and industries, and is a contributing author for local and national publications including Arizona Employment Letter, HR Laws, HR Daily Advisor, The Daily Independent at YourValley.net, and Arizona Attorney magazine. Juliet also represents executive-level employees and physicians in negotiating executive employment agreements, severance packages, and non-competition, non-solicitation, and non-disclosure agreements.

Juliet earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona (B.A., Psychology, cum laude) and her Juris Doctorate at the Washington College of Law, American University (J.D., cum laude). Prior to launching the Burgess Law Group, Juliet practiced in the Phoenix offices of international law firms (Greenberg Traurig, LLP and Littler Mendelson, P.C.) where she managed complex multi-district litigations and class actions and served as outside litigation and employment counsel to clients nationwide. She’s also the former Arizona Representative of the Federal Bar Association's Board of Directors (Labor & Employment Section).

Juliet is an active member of the community. She's co-chaired events, served on the boards of several non-profit organizations in the Valley and co-founded "the Aggregate" to support, connect, and inspire women in the law. Currently, she's on Arizona Women Lawyers Association's Board of Directors and is a member of the American Heart Association's Phoenix Heart Ball Committee, Childhelp's Wings Chapter, the Phoenix Art Museum's Arizona Costume Institute and Ballet Arizona's Ballet Barre.
